The name Lavenham derives from the Saxon words meaning ‘the homestead of a man called Lafa’. There has been a settlement here since pre-Roman times, and the central street plan is unchanged from the medieval period.

This small engine house is part of a Victorian mill and maltings complex in the centre of Lavenham.
